Metrics-based research evaluation is gaining increasing importance in assessing research performance on international, national and institutional levels.

International university ranking lists, national-based research assessment schemes and institutional approaches are now an established feature of the research assessment landscape. Access to data, ensuring quality and developing reasonable indicators are of pivotal importance in the success of these undertakings.

To address these issues Thomson Reuters, the world’s leading provider of bibliographic and citation information, and The University of Queensland, have the pleasure of inviting you to the National and Institutional Perspectives on Metrics-Based Research Evaluation.

Invited International and Australian speakers will be addressing critical issues of research evaluation from their national perspectives. Distinguished speakers include:

  • Professor Charles Oppenheim, Loughborough University, UK, HEFCE advisor on the Research Excellence Framework (REF) in the UK,
  • Andrew Calder, Director of Research Evaluation Branch, Australian Research Council

  • Dr Robert Tijssen, Leiden University, The Netherlands

Institutional perspectives will be addressed in papers by our Australian colleagues. There will be a plenary session on the role of modern university library in supporting research evaluation and practical data management and analysis.
