Patent intelligence in the Financial Times

In June 2005 the Financial Times, one of the world’s leading global business newspapers, included three features from Thomson Scientific highlighting some commercial applications of patent intelligence.

The phenomenon of mobile phones was explored in the first feature, using patent information to tell the story of their development, and provide insight into how the mobile phone might look in the future.

A global innovation map was the subject of the second article, using numbers of patent applications as a measure of innovation, and revealing that Japan and the United States are still leading the way.

Finally, Thomson Scientific illustrated how patents are a key intelligence tool for potential investors – using several real examples and a spoof patent application – see if you can spot the fake!
