MILLIONS MORE FIND ANSWERS IN ISI WEB OF KNOWLEDGE

Philadelphia, PA USA-London UK — February 9, 2006 — Today, Thomson Scientific reported a giant leap in usage of ISI Web of KnowledgeSM during 2005. In total over 54 million user sessions were recorded during these 12 months: each session representing a researcher logging on to ISI Web of Knowledge to navigate, analyze and manage multidisciplinary content from journals, patents, proceedings and the Web.

The 2004 total of over 33 million user sessions was already a record, with an 85% increase on the previous year’s figures. But the steep upwards trend continued with a further 62% increase in 2005.

“In addition to welcoming thousands of new users during 2005, we’ve seen a 27% increase in the average number of sessions per customer.” said Keith MacGregor, executive vice president of Academic & Government Markets at Thomson Scientific. “In an increasingly crowded information marketplace, researchers and information professionals continue to turn to us for quality search results that give them a complete picture of research — both current and past — in their specialist field”.

Thomson Scientific implemented a faster development cycle in 2005 to help it respond faster to customer feedback. Developments that helped drive the usage increase include:

  • Enhanced analytical power via the Analyze tool that allows users to gain insights into hidden trends and patterns in their search results.
  • The addition of Zoological Record , the oldest continuing database of animal biology
  • Addition of links to the HighWire Press free archive: the world's largest repository of free full-text life science articles.
  • Addition of the entire INSPEC archive: giving access to over 70 additional years of international scientific and technical literature in physics, electrical engineering, electronics, computing and control engineering.
  • A series of enhancements making it even easier to search, sort, and analyze research literature with efficiency and ease.
