Attention Proxy Users:

 


Q: We allow remote users to search our database through a proxy server. What proxy settings do I need to use to access Web of Knowledge?

A: Please note that Thomson Scientific makes every effort to ensure smooth interaction of the Web of Knowledge with customer proxy servers. However, we cannot at this time certify all functionality of the Web of Knowledge via the EZProxy proxy server. Access to the Web of Knowledge via EZProxy is known to work in most cases. Your configuration will depend on what products you subscribe to. This configuration is valid for EZProxy 2.0j GA (2003-06-02) (or later).

With the release of the new version of Web of Knowledge, we highly recommend replacing your current EZProxy configuration file with the following blocks.

If, after these changes have been made, your users receive an error saying "Your session has expired," this may mean you have exceeded your "maximum virtual host limit." To check for this, look at the file titled ezproxy.msg. Toward the end of the file, see if there is an error message like the following:

"Reached maximum virtual host limit, use MV in ezproxy.cfg to increase"

If you find this error, open the file titled ezproxy.cfg and see if there is a line similar to this:

MV 300
MAXVIRTUALHOSTS 300

If those lines appear, increase the number by 50-100. If they do not appear, add this line:
MAXVIRTUALHOSTS 300

Once you make either of these changes, restart EZproxy to make the change take effect. Then test to see whether or not the issue is resolved.

3. Remember to restart your proxy once changes are saved
